Neil Ackerman

My Personal Bio and Background
Born in New Jersey, my love of the outdoors led me to the mountain states of the West. After graduating cum laude from Rutger’s University, I attended the University of Colorado Law School. My practice led me to work in several states and eventually led me to establish my private law practice in Las Vegas.

I have been a practicing attorney for 14 years
and am licensed in three states: Nevada, Colorado, and California. I began my career as a prosecutor but moved into commercial and business law within two years, specializing in working in-house for technology firms. As in-house counsel, I developed expertise in all areas of legal concern to a small business including contracts, labor/employment, corporate, administrative and agency law, and dispute resolution. I have also worked extensively with venture capital firms closing over $400 million in financing for 3 companies and helping position companies for IPO’s.

After the tech bust in 2001, I became General Counsel in California for a professional services company that specialized in services for cities and counties. Working all around the country, memorandum and briefs I filed modified law and industry practices in six states in the U.S including California, Nevada, Michigan and Florida. I worked extensively with the California State Legislature, drafting and modifying bills on tax and business matters to ensure both local government and small business owners were treated fairly under the law. I also worked extensively on the Streamline Sales Tax Project (SSTP), a multi-state sales tax sharing law that will be the predecessor of a national sales tax if one is ever adopted.

I entered private practice as Neil Ackerman Esq. LLC when I moved to Nevada and continue to bring my expertise to bear helping small business owners grow. With a unique combination of business, litigation, contracts, and tax experience, I love helping business owners structure their operations to realize tax benefits, insure against cross liability, and prevent disputes through proactive work.
